Silk Nightgown with Train

I take my leisure-wear very seriously. Considering I don’t leave the house much working from home and navigating a pandemic, it makes sense that more and more of my wardrobe is becoming house-clothes.

This January I’m focusing on wrapping up unfinished projects around the house before making way for the new and hopefully better. These efforts are mostly manifest in the sewing room where I’ve got stacks of started ideas waiting for their turn to see completion. This one has been in the backlog for longer than I’d like to admit, but since 2022 is going to be a year in white for me, it was time to get this one checked off the list.

This nightgown started as an incomplete set of silk bedsheets (purchased and donated to me. I wasn’t making bedsheets). Once destined to become a robe in my head, it morphed into a gown after I saw a very similar garment on Etsy, wanted it, and realized that I had everything I needed to make it myself. I modified a non-stretch T-shirt pattern and added a short train just to be dramatic.

It’s very soft, breathable, and has an impressive thread-count. All the seams are French for that added softness and because I have to make more work for myself. I’m going to pair it with my big purple kaftan and a martini.
