Oil Pastel Plein-air of Windsor Lake

  • by

Hello, art professional here, just learning about the existence of a tool for my particular need. Remember that vacation I talked about two posts ago? While there I did some plein-air sketching of Windsor Lake with some oil pastels. I like sketching with oil-pastels; they’re fast and loose. Never suited to finished pieces these days (or so I thought). Well, I was trying to be tighter in the sketch than the material wanted to be, so I’m sitting there blending with layers and layers of blue and white over-top, smooshing things around to get an even finish.

Then I come home and discover the existence of COLORLESS BLENDING OIL PASTELS. That would have been so awesome to have, I dunno, 20 years ago? But especially for this sketch above–really wish I had colorless blending pastels for this one. When I learned of the product I ordered some right away and I am so excited to try them out soon to avoid another one of these messes! Learning is part of the journey and I share more than my successes here.
