This weekend was peak fall. Peak foliage, amazing clear weather (if a little warm), and a full schedule of costumed activities. Starting with the last weekend of the Connecticut Renaissance Faire. This has become our most local faire that we attend annually and it keeps expanding! This year there were more vendors than ever before, new stage layouts, the addition of pony rides, a petting zoo, and bigger crowds.

At a balmy 65 degrees in late October, we were more than comfortable without top-layers but could still wear most of what we wanted without overheating. Inspired by our recent trip to Scotland I added a little plaid to my many skirts.

We scheduled this day at the fair months ago to align with friends, but it happened to coincide with another national No Kings protest, so Kelley made ‘Nae Kings’ flags for us to sport on the fairgrounds. We received a lot of positive feedback.

My water-game was better than ever this year with my discovery of powered brewer’s wash. This handy alkaline powder sanitizes bottles and growlers without scrubbing, meaning I finally have full confidence to drink out of narrow-neck glass bottles that I can’t quite fit a brush in. More than just water, I felt confident enough to sport kombucha in my hip-apothecary set. Staying hydrated is so important when in heavy costume and now I can easily sterilize all the fancy bottles I can carry.

Sunday we attended a costume party, outdoors, 78 degrees in New England in October. I was dressed as a not-scary-witch for the kids, and Jake was a pilot. The bustle is new, so I’ll have to give it its own post soon!
