Bison Skull Watercolor

  • by

Another skull painting to add to the series I’ve been working on: a bison. This is the first full-size watercolor that I’ve completed in the new house, though the sketch and reference photos began last year before the move. Very straight-forward, I start with a pencil sketch transferred onto a watercolor block with graphite paper. Next I lay base washes, build up color, and finish with a touch of colored pencil around the edges.

This skull series has been fast, easy, and satisfying to work on. Pulling color out of a white object keeps my eyes sharp, and the iconographic nature of the pieces qualify as pleasing but unobtrusive decor. Macabre, occult, edgy, but still clean like the contemporary home.

At the time of this posting, this piece is for sale. Framed and ready to go. If interested, please reach out via the contact page or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Shaunart.net/
