We had a lovely and restorative nine days in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, starting with a stop on the way up at the New Hampshire Renaissance Faire.

The faire is on open grounds with no protection from weather, and it happened to be raining that day. With a well-stocked car, and a very cold fair day in recent memory, we were well-prepared with cloaks and umbrellas. We and this faire together do not have good luck with weather. There was a year in the past that we tried to attend when the faire was cancelled for lightening. At least we got to shop this time, and got many compliments on my hat and veil.

On vacation we focused on true leisure. We hiked to waterfalls in the rain, took a train to the top of Mount Washington, and laid on an alpine beach for hours. I did some sketches on the disc-golf course while Jake went off and played some holes that circled-back:

And I painted a panoramic of Echo Lake on our lazy beach day in watercolor.

We ate a little too much on vacation. The pre-season-sleepy villages still had ice cream, free chocolate cake, and secret cinnamon rolls to offer. I like to think it was balanced out with a fair bit of steep hiking and a day at the sauna.
